ABP Southampton Marathon
In May 2019, I helped at the annual ABP Southampton Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k and Fun Run event with Rees Leisure. I attended the team briefing day on Friday 3rd May, and the event day on Sunday 5th May. This event has 10,000 runners each year along with key sponsors, media, charities and an estimated 20,000 spectators.

My main job role on the day was Media Host. This meant I managed the media room throughout the day. On arrival, I made sure each media team member had a lanyard, which was numbered so I could keep track on who was in the media room, including key local media such as BBC South and ITV Meridian. My role was to make sure that the day ran smoothly by organising interviews for the national and local networks (TV and Radio) if they needed. This included the winners of the Marathon.
Once the media teams had signed out, I helped with the Fun Run in the afternoon, by making sure all the runners took the right direction around the park to avoid anyone going the wrong way. Being part of a new team was very rewarding, especially when we got to see everyone cross the finish line!
"Hannah was an asset to our event and played a key role as a Media Host – this involved meeting, greeting and looking after the key local media including BBC South and ITV Meridian as well as various national and local radio networks. Hannah helped to organise interviews and ensure the smooth running of the media plan throughout the day. She also spent time communicating between the groups to facilitate the interviews, checked users in and out of the media room using pre-arranged lists and acted as first port of call for both the high level sporting celebrities being interviewed, as well as the media themselves.
Hannah also spent time assisting in our set up and break down of the event infrastructure. She was not only enthusiastic and very proactive in her approach, she had a fantastic work ethic and maintained a smile and excellent demeanour throughout quite a long day! We would be happy to welcome Hannah back at any of our events in the future and would highly recommend her.”
